I can't believe it's taken this long to get back to blogging. And back to movies. Although I avoided them like the plague because of rude behavior from my fellow moviegoers, Brokeback Mountain sucked me in. Of course a cell phone went off during a quiet scene, but what did I care with Heath and Jake creating a gorgeous love story on scene. Then I was off to King Kong. Jackson sets the period with a montage of period images, drawing in and educating the viewer at the same time. He then jumps into the story, letting a desperate Jack Black recruit Naomi Watts, a marvelous journey. I had never noticed Ms. Watts in anything before, but I found her riveting and think she has strong potential to grab leading lady roles for the next decade.
Last night I sat through Willy Wonka, which must be an acquired taste. I enjoyed the squirrel sequence.
Much better is the Exorcism of Emily Rose. Sure it suffers from being a cinematic courtroom drama, but the mega-questions asked by the script, and the compelling performances, make it a much more enjoyable watch than the chocolate factory quest.
And now new episodes of Lost. But what I'm waiting for is Friday's Galactica.
